Column chromatography is an extremely time consuming stage in any lab and can quickly become the bottleneck for any process lab. Automated flash chromatography systems utilizing pre-packed flash cartridges minimize human involvement in the purification process. These cartridges are typically packed with irregular silicagel (40-63um, 60A) and commonly used are 4g – 330g cartridges, with or without solid loading capabilities. Up to 3kg cartridges are available.
Automated systems often include components normally found on more expensive (HPLC) systems such as a gradient pump, sample injection ports, a UV detector and a fraction collector to collect the eluent. These automated systems can separate samples from a few milligrams up to an industrial many kilogram scale and offer a much cheaper and quicker solution to doing multiple injections on prep-HPLC systems.
Santai’s SepaBean system for Flash Chromatography is a cost-effective and good and smart choice when semi-automation is needed to improve separation quality and effectiveness. The main features include:
- Wireless operation through mobile devices
- Power failure recovery
- Smart column holder
- Separation method recommendation
- Fraction collector
- Local network data sharing
- RFID technology
- 21-CFR PART 11 compliance
Built-in features also include method recommendation, based on a method database also taking own experiments into account. Method recommendation simply takes your entered structures as drawing or CAS number and based on experimental data, proposes the best separation conditions. Also, TLC results can be simply entered as a basis. In the case of reversed phase chromatography, the elution gradient is automatically adapted during the run based on the separation achieved.
Incorporated in a LAN, multiple SepaBean machines are recognized and data synchronized. This also enables interruption of separations on one machine and continuation on another when needed.
SepaBean’s comes in 4 types – differentiating in application performance with respect to flow rate, maximum pressure, gradient handling, detector choice.
